Mom's Old Fashioned Crumb Cake

Ingredients:
1-1/2 cup sifted flour
3 tbs. Baking powder
1/4 tsp. Salt
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup solid shortening
1 egg
1/2 cups milk
1 tsp. Vanilla
Crumb Topping
Ingredients:
1/2 cup brown sugar firmly packed
2 tsp. Cinnamon
2 tbs. Sifted flour
2 tbs. Butter
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Crumb Topping
Preparation:
In a separate bowl, combine brown
sugar, cinnamon and flour until
blended.
Cut in softened butter
Mix in chopped nuts.
Add as directed above to cake.
Preparation:
Sift dry ingredients into large bowl.
Cut in the shortening.
Mix in beaten egg with milk and vanilla, stir into dry ingredients.
Spread ˝ of the batter into a greased and floured 9” cake pan.
Sprinkle with1/2 topping mixture.
Add the other 1/2 batter and sprinkle with the remaining topping.
Bake 25 to 30 minutes at 375.
