Crazy Wave Frame in PSP 8
Considering I am not really a 'frames' person, I nevertheless enjoy being creative with them...usually when I feel that an image needs some sort of surrounds but I don't want the conventional type of frame. I often get asked how I have created my whacky frames...or should I say 'designer'? *s* I recently did a tutorial on one of my crazy frames and thought I would put together a few tutes on more of the crazy methods I use in making them. As always, I encourage you all to be creative and experiment...but remember to share any great ideas with me. *s*
What you will need.
PSP 8 Download a trial I used Beta 8 for this tutorial, after doing it first in PSP 7 (with a somewhat different result) *s*
Xenofex 1.1 or a filter that will give you photo edges etc.
An image of your choice.
Please note that most of the screen shots have been reduced to 60% for faster loading.
Also remember to SAVE often!
Step 1. Open up the image that you wish to frame or use one that you have just created...make a copy of it...Shift + D...close the original.
Let's work on the copy. If it shows as a background in the layer palette, then promote to layer.
Naturally, I have based my directions for colours of borders on my image, so you would substitute mine by picking out a dark and light colour from your own image.
Go to Image...Canvas Size...and add 100 to both width and height.
Step 2 Effects...Plugins....Xenofex 1.1...Distress.... with these settings: Rough...47...87..change them around if you wish to get a different edging. click OK.
With the magic wand
, select the transparent part of your image...fill
this with a light colour from the image.
Selections...Invert...Now go to Selections again...Modify...Expand 10....Invert...Delete. This gives you the coloured border around your image. Deselect.
Step 3
Use the magic wand
again to select this border and apply the Geometric Wave...settings....all 4's and colour Black (at least it is for my image...you choose whatever suits your image)
How do you get there? *g* Effects....Distortion Effects...Wave

Cool isn't it? You now have a few more options in this feature...I can see me getting lost in this again. *g*
Step 4 Duplicate this layer and drag to the bottom of the palette. Go to Image...Resize...110% with these settings.

Step 5 To this bottom layer apply the same Geometric Effects Wave as we did before....don't float it though as the effect will be applied to the whole layer. This time you will get the option to 'wrap'...select the box on the top right hand side.
**See the magic that goes on in here?...Before you wrap it...the border goes around the outside of the image...so many possibilities with this new feature. Also notice the cool effect that is applied to this layer...you will see it better if you turn off the top layer. *s* **
This image below shows us what it should look like at this stage with both layers visible.
Step 6 Add a new Raster Layer and drag to the bottom of the palette...use the eye dropper
to select a dark shade from your image and fill
this new layer.
Merge visible all three layers.
Step 7 Select the dark outside area with the magic wand
Go to Effects...Textured Effects....Mosaic...Glass
with default settings. I hadn't used this before so mine was already on these settings.
OK it and Voila!
Finished!
